After almost five years of living in the Colonia Santa Julia, San Miguel de Allende, in a house we have come to love, we've decided to sell and move a little further out in search of a larger piece of property.
If we could transplant this house a little further out in the country we would and we would bring all of our neighbors with us because that is what we'll miss the most about living here. But more about that up on the neighbors link above.
Here's a photo descriptive walkthrough:
The home is located in the Colonia Santa Julia (click for map), about 2 blocks below CASA, in a Mexican family neighborhood, with about northamerican neighbors living on all of the blocks. Warren and Tuly Hardy who own the Warren Hardy Spanish School have lived here for about 15 years, two blocks away. CASA is an organization that helps women and families, has a midwifery school, a clinic, and provides social services for women and familys and the Santa Julia Orphanage for girls ise just around the corner. It's a worthy place to volunteer a little time. For someone wanting immersion in the local culture, while being only a 15 minute walk to town, in a home and area with fantastic views, this is the home for you.
The house sits on a lot that is 5 x 20 meters with an open courtyard in the center of the home allowing all the natural light from the sky to light all of the rooms of the house.
The front door opens to a warm gallery corridor well lit for your favorite artwork and a long view through the decorative iron security gate to the interior courtyard. There's a nicho at the entrance on the left, and a one car garage for a car and storage.
Looking back at the front door.
Open to the sky, you get ample light to all of the rooms of the house. The windows at the second level are the full width of the lot giving the maximum natural light into the rooms while keeping you in constant touch with the natural environment and complete privacy in the living areas of the house.
Below, the view through the decorative iron entry gate into the center patio and up the stairwell to the main living areas.
The interior patio looks on to decorative iron gate which leads to the lower bedroom, bath and laundry.

Another view from the lower bedroom, with iron gates closed.
The kitchen and master bedroom are at the second level to take full advantage of the most natural light possible. Both the living, kitchen and master bedroom areas have floor to ceiling, wall to wall sliding glass doors.
Below, the living room, and kitchen. Below this photo, a view of the living area from inside the kitchen.
Looking out from the kitchen, into the living room and beyond across the patio to the master bedroom.
The kitchen has natural pine cabinets with glass doors above, pine painted cabintes below with ample storage, tile counter tops. It is a kitchen for cooks, containing eight burners and a medium size oven and a brick backsplash to the stove. There is shelf space at the top of the cabinets for large pots or favorite decorative pieces.
This is another nother view from the kitchen to the living room. The windows at the left, at the request of our neighbor and for mutual privacy have frosted glass.
